powerful article on the gaza war

This article says pretty much everything that I wanted to say on the Gaza war, and more. It is written by Uri Avnery, an Israeli peace activist.

Take a look. It is pretty strong. If you disagree with any of it, try and figure out why you think its wrong.

That is a pretty powerful article, and a real interesting read. I don't disagree with any points he made... really, I have no reason not to believe them.

One sad fact of this vicious cycle, is that Israel's economy is very strongly tied to war. Over 20% of their GDP results directly from defense-related technologies, which account for over 60% of their exports (from 'The Shock Doctrine' pg 525, Naomi Klein's latest book). As the world's fourth-largest arms dealer, Israel has a huge economic incentive to continue the 'perpetual war'. This is an especially terrifying idea, especially to anyone who has read Orwell's 1984.

As an aside Graeme, you should really read 'The Shock Doctrine'. You're probably already familiar with most of the history she presents, but the sheer number of references and facts that the book contains is tremendous. If anything else, it is an excellent reference.

I got distracted by Gaza from writing that bit about the financial crisis I promised you.
